During my  in residency at ZK/U Berlin, I began documenting the city's hostile architecture. What struck me most were the construction fences—they are everywhere, acting as barriers that carve up public space. Coming from Cairo, I was constantly searching for fresh air and greenery. I eventually found my "getaway" at Teufelssee and the heights of Drachenberg; places where you momentarily forget you are in a metropolis.

I also wanted to capture the feeling of "the wait" in Berlin—the long queues for  galleries and clubs where you stand for an hour, unsure of what is waiting for you at the end. Maze merges these experiences. The audience must participate in the performance of waiting and navigating a confined space. Only at the very end do they reach the reward: the sights and sounds of the lake, offering a moment of natural reflection.
