Uncomfortable/interactive installations/2025
Uncomfortable is an interactive artistic project that documents hostile architecture in Alexandria. It invites public participation through three interconnected components: a large map installed in the exhibition space, where visitors mark from memory the locations of hostile urban elements; a street-action kit designed as a game, including stickers and instruction cards that encourage participants to identify and tag these features in real life; and an evolving online map that archives the documented sites across the city.
By combining memory, physical action, and digital documentation, Uncomfortable reveals how public spaces are deliberately designed to exclude. The project fosters collective reflection on accessibility, control, and the politics embedded in urban design in Alexandria. While rooted in this specific context, its methodology is adaptable and can be applied to any city, opening a broader conversation about exclusion and spatial power in urban environments in any city.
